Why can Zigbee products from different manufacturers communicate with each other?
Zigbee specifies exactly how devices communicate with each other – i.e. how they send and receive signals and perform basic functions such as switching on and off, dimming or colour change. These uniform rules ensure that different products speak the same ‘language’.
To ensure that this actually works in practice, there is Zigbee certification. Only devices with the Zigbee Certified logo have been tested and approved by independent testing institutes. This logo ensures that the products reliably meet the standards and are compatible across manufacturers – especially in the field of smart lighting. However, compatibility may vary for more complex devices such as sensors or switches – this depends on the specific functions and implementation by the manufacturer.
How compatible are Paulmann Zigbee solutions?
Smart Paulmann light bulbs, plugs, switches and remote controls are certified according to the latest Zigbee 3.0 specifications. This means they meet the official standards and are fundamentally compatible with all other Zigbee Certified devices. If a Paulmann product does not work as expected on a third-party Zigbee gateway, this is usually because the Zigbee gateway manufacturer provides none support for third-party providers or because the device type is very manufacturer-specific and not all functions are standardised.
The smik gateway is an open system and, in accordance with the specified options and standard-specific restrictions for accessories, supports the connection and use of Zigbee 3.0 products from other manufacturers.
